Power cut? If you have no electricity
Power cuts can be worrying, especially in the winter. Our handy guide to the key challenges: identifying whether you have a power cut, what to do if you have one, and how to make sure you’re prepared if it happens again.
Please ensure you follow this electrical emergency safety advice:
- If it's safe to do so, turn off all electrical appliances (lights, etc)
- Please locate your fuse box, taking care and a battery-operated torch if it's in a dark or awkward place because the power is to be turned off
- Providing there are no signs of damage (cracked or burnt covers) turn off the main switches
- If you can smell burning, there is smoke or if you have damaged equipment or cables, keep a close eye on the meter as the fire brigade may be required
