Change tariff as an existing customer – in 3 easy steps​

1. Log in to your online account

Access your account either online, or in the app.

2. Find a cheaper tariff

Click on 'Switch tariff' under the heading 'Tariff' and check to see if there’s one with 'Estimated saving'.

3. We do the rest

Once you’ve picked your tariff, we’ll get you switched over within 24 hours. There’s nothing else you need to do but enjoy the savings.

When can I change my energy tariff

If you’re on a:

Fixed tariff

We'll get in touch a month before your current tariff expires to choose a new tariff:

  • No exit fees to pay in renewal window
  • If you don't choose a new tariff, we'll automatically move you to our Standard Variable one when yours ends.

Note: Exit fees applies only if you change from a fixed tariff to Standard Variable before your renewal window.

Standard Variable tariff

If you're on a Standard Variable tariff you can change to a fixed tariff at any time. Just log in to your online account a pick one of our available tariffs.

If you're on a Standard Variable tariff because you’ve moved into a new home that we supply:

Note: There's no fees to pay if you move from Standard Variable to another British Gas tariff.

If I change my tariff, will I still get PeakSave?

You'll need to choose a PeakSave tariff to continue to benefit from half-price electricity.

Can I change my tariff without exit fees?

If you’re on a fixed tariff, then you can swap to another available fixed tariffs without paying exit fees.

If you’re on a fixed tariff, and you want to move to our Standard Variable tariff, then an exit fee will be applied. 

There’s never an exit fee to pay if you move from our Standard Variable tariff to a fixed tariff.
