  • Combi boilers

Combi boilers are the most compact boiler option, generating both your heating and hot water from a single unit. Great for small households with one bathroom.

  • Conventional boilers

Also known as a ‘regular’ or ‘heat only’, these boilers are connected to a separate cylinder or water tank and are best suited to larger, older homes with more than one bathroom.

    Buy a conventional boiler
  • System boilers

Also known as ‘closed vent’ or ‘system sealed’ boilers. System boilers are best suited to larger homes with space for a hot water cylinder and good water pressure.

How long does a replacement boiler installation take?

A new boiler installation usually takes 1-3 days. If your new boiler is the same type as your old one, it will be a simpler and quicker boiler installation than if your replacement boiler was a different type – for example, switching from a conventional boiler to a combi boiler. Moving your new boiler to a different place to the old one makes your replacement boiler installation slower than keeping the same type because it creates extra work like changing the pipework.

Confused about which type to go for? We can help you find the right new boiler type for you.

How much does a replacement boiler installation cost?

With British Gas, boiler installation is always included in the price we quote. Whether you’re ordering your replacement boiler online or through one of our heating advisers, we’ll give you a quote that includes your replacement boiler and boiler installation. Our step-by-step guide to boiler installation has more details about what you can expect when you buy a replacement boiler from British Gas.

Not sure when you should replace your boiler? Our guide can help you to decide between a new boiler, boiler repair or boiler replacement.

What is the cost of a new combi boiler?

The size of your home and the number of radiators you have will determine the cost of a new combi boiler. A new combi boiler for a small one-bedroom flat with only five radiators will cost much less than a new combi boiler for a large detached house with lots of bedrooms, bathrooms and radiators.

What happens during a new boiler installation?

When your expert boiler installation engineer has finished your new boiler installation, they’ll check that everything is working as it should be and then talk you through your new boiler and system controls and show you how to use it. Our step-by-step guide to boiler installation explains everything in more detail. Following your boiler installation, you might want to think about boiler accessories that could make it even more efficient, like Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRVs).

We’ll also help you to keep your new boiler in top condition and working as efficiently as possible with up to 12 years’ warranty. That means that if anything goes wrong with your new boiler, we’ll be there to repair it – or to replace it for FREE if we can’t.

To keep your warranty valid, you’ll need to have your new boiler serviced annually. You can save yourself the hassle of remembering to book this in with HomeCare boiler cover packages, all of which include an annual boiler service at no extra cost.

When you take out HomeCare boiler cover, we’ll give you:

    • Unlimited call-outs for your new boiler
    • An annual boiler service
    • New boiler repairs that include all parts and labour

How do I accept my new boiler quote?

We’ll email you a copy of your new boiler quote and you’ll also be able to access it on our website. You can accept your new boiler quote online or call us to accept it. What happens during a new boiler installation?

Your boiler installation engineer will drain down your central heating and hot water system so that they can disconnect and remove your old boiler. They will then clear out your heating system to get rid of impurities in the pipework. Then they’ll start your replacement boiler installation, and once your replacement boiler installation is complete, they’ll talk you through your new boiler and system controls and show you how to use it. Our step-by-step guide to boiler installation explains everything in more detail.

How much does a boiler service cost?

The cost of a boiler service in the UK can vary. The price you pay for a boiler service depends on several factors, like the type of boiler you have, how old it is and where in the country you live.

It’s important to have your boiler serviced regularly because not only will doing so keep it in top condition and running as efficiently as possible, but your warranty may not be valid if you don’t.

At British Gas, we give you a choice of how to get a boiler service. You can either book a standalone single boiler service, sign up for an annual boiler service, or take out our HomeCare boiler cover which includes your annual boiler service at no extra cost.

    • £99 for a one-off boiler service with no ongoing commitment
    • £7.75 a month for an annual boiler service contract
    • From £21 a month for HomeCare boiler cover

How efficient is my gas boiler?

The more efficient your boiler is, the more heating you’ll get for the money you spend on running it. Our guide to boiler efficiency explains this in more detail. And we’ve also got some tips to improve your boiler's efficiency.

Every new boiler we offer is A-rated for efficiency, and an energy-efficient new boiler could help you lower your gas bill – and cut your carbon footprint too.
