PeakSave for Business trial: Supporting Net Zero

26 July 2024

Implementing a successful energy strategy on the road to net zero can be challenging for lots of reasons. For one thing, there is no blueprint for success. Every business is different and every journey will differ according to specific energy budgets, needs and ambitions. Businesses must also balance short-term gains with long-term goals. And, as if achieving net zero wasn’t tough enough, energy price fluctuations have had a huge impact.

Even today the energy market continues to challenge many businesses with higher-than-normal commodity prices and volatility that seems here to stay. As a result, that “magic pill” solution remains elusive. Instead, smart businesses should look to a multipronged approach – one that meets a business’ needs today while making all-important steps towards a greener tomorrow.

Supporting a greener future

As the UK’s number 1 energy supplier, we’re committed to supporting our customers no matter what lies ahead. It’s all part of our wider commitment as a business to energise a greener, fairer future and support the energy transition by making sure it’s affordable for everyone. That means helping our customers with the big picture – like becoming net zero by 2050 – and by putting the resources in place to get there.

Empowering businesses with the tools to succeed

No matter where your business is on its net zero journey, you should never underestimate the importance of energy management. From short-term cost savings to long-term sustainability, taking control of your energy provides the solid foundation to build on.

To help our customers improve business energy efficiency, spot energy-saving opportunities, and identify the most effective sustainable solutions, here’s a list of ways we help to make energy management quick and easy.

Launching PeakSave for Business

Following the success of PeakSave for residential customers, we’re expanding our support to business customers by launching a PeakSave for business trial. It means from 11am to 4pm every Friday during the Olympics and into the Paralympics, eligible Small and Enterprise business energy customers – from cafes to charities – have access to half-price electricity.

The aim is to incentivise PeakSave for business customers to shift their energy consumption, and by doing so, not only will they save money, we’re also helping smooth out business energy demand across the UK. If the trial is successful, we’ll review plans to roll out PeakSave for business to a wider section of our customer base including those on British Gas Lite.

Driving sustainability and affordability

Another way we support our customers is by offering Zero Carbon electricity as standard on all new and renewed fixed term contracts. This is independently verified by the Carbon Trust, and helps business customers meet their sustainability targets. Businesses wanting to boost their green credentials further also have the option of one of our low carbon or renewable energy plans for an added premium.
